Grow your own ginger in a container, and you’ll have fresh roots for cooking all year long!
Ginger has been shown to help with the entire digestive system, plus, it feels so calming after a cup of warm ginger tea!
How to Grow Ginger Indoors
To start, you will need a root. You can find this in your grocery store, and it is important that the roots are smooth with nodes where sprouts emerge from. A couple of 1-2 inch chunks work well for planting.
Make sure you get organic ginger root, otherwise, it might not sprout. Soaking the ginger root pieces in warm water overnight is a good way to start sprouting.
Make sure your pot drains well and press each piece of it about an inch into organic soil before covering lightly with soil.
Indoor Ginger Care
When you plant your seeds, make sure to water them frequently and keep the soil moist. It’s also important that it doesn’t get too dry or over-soaked because this could cause problems with fungus infection of roots (this is called damping off).
A spritz should do nicely for keeping humidity near potting soil; just don’t forget about those pesky fungi!
The first step is choosing a spot where you want your ginger plant. Once that’s done, make sure the soil temperature isn’t below freezing and then move outside if possible!
Your little friend should grow up 2-4 feet tall with bright yellow flowers on top – once those appear it’ll be time for harvesting some fresh ginger. Just pull the greens and the root will come out.
Indoor ginger care is so easy and anyone can do it, not to mention that this plant brings many health benefits in the house.
