Succulents and vertical planters form a combo that brings many benefits. As succulent plants require less watering, it’s easy for gardeners to grow them while they add life and colors to plain walls or fences – saving lots of valuable ground space in the process! Here’s how to grow a fantastic vertical succulent garden!
Creating Vertical Succulent Garden
For your planter’s base, use small crates with a variety of shapes and sizes. Shadow boxes make for great table or floor decor as well! Then, you’ll need a box to make your succulent planter that should be 2 inches deep.
Place a 1/4-inch (6 mm) mesh wire hardware cloth over your planter to hold plants in place and give them room for growth.
To ensure your plants thrive, use a mix of different types. It may take them some time to fill out the planter box and grow into their full potentials so it’d be best if you overwintered any new additions for this reason!
Leave the vertical planter on a flat surface for 3-4 months before you hang it. Otherwise there is likely to be some serious rooting problems, which could result in your plants not surviving or thriving!
Watering your succulents is a crucial part of their care. Make sure to follow these steps after planting: let the roots harden in 1 week, then water weekly for at least three more weeks or until they’ve established themselves (which usually takes about 2 months). Take the planter down to avoid washing away the soil inside.
Fertilize your houseplants with a mix of 1 part liquid plant food to 4 parts water in the summer and winter.
