Succulents are the best plants to grow if you want an easy-care, low maintenance yard.
Here’s how it can be done:
1. Give Them Breathing Room
Forget about that adorable succulent terrarium! Your plants will be happier outdoors, where they can get some air and sunshine.
2. Provide Some Shade
There are many types of succulents that require different levels and kinds of sunlight.
Sparkling plants need the brightest sun, while other varieties like plain green ones can tolerate more shade or partial coverings on their leaves with less intense light.
3. Start with the Right Soil
A cactus mix is a great option for the avid gardener.
For those who like to get their hands dirty, add coarse perlite or pumice into your potting soil and you’ll have instant success!
4. Low-water isn’t No-water
Watering succulents is a delicate balance. If you water them too much, or if they’re dry and in need of some love- then it can kill your plants!
So, in order to avoid this, water them weekly with small amounts of water (for small pots), and every two weeks for larger pots.
5. Include Drainage
How do you make sure your succulent roots are happy? Watch out for excess water. Make sure there’s drainage in the container, and if not make some!
6. Succulents Need Food, Too
Succulents are a great addition to anyone’s home, but they can be even more beautiful with care. Make sure that you feed your plant at least once every year and use an organic fertilizer for best results!
7. Rethink Propagation
If you want to keep your plant healthy and strong, pluck a stem from the base of its stalk.
Let it dry out in-between each leaf for at least 3 days so that calluses form on both sides; this process is called healing! Place them into potting soil mix described above.
8. Beware of Frost
Succulents will die if their temperature falls below freezing. The easiest way to prevent this is by moving them inside or under cover when you notice that frost threatens.
