The best way to make gardening easier is by understanding these tips and tricks.
Whether you’re new, or an experienced gardener (and even if we know your habits), take a look at this list because it’ll make your gardening more enjoyable!
1. Keep deer away
If you are looking for ways to keep deer away, then hang wind chimes or something else which is noisy in your garden. You could try tins that make noise when knocked together as well.
If this isn’t enough, try sprinkling human urine on places where you have seen deer. It sounds crazy, but it works!
2. Mulch at the Right Time
Don’t add mulch to the plants you are going to winter over until after a frost has taken place. If it’s added before then, warmth will be trapped for insects and protection from cold weather conditions too soon!
3. Seeding Trick
Start your seedlings with a little help from nature: use eggshells or lemon rind to start and then crack it when planting.
4. Make Your Own Watering can
You can create your own watering can by using a gallon jug. To make it, you’ll need a pin, lighter, and the desired gallon jug.
Heat the needle and pierce through the jug. Repeat this until you have enough holes to serve as a watering can.
5. Keep your plants fresh when you are away
In the summer, it is easy to forget that your plants need water when you’re not at home. The best way to ensure they get enough?
Roll up a paper towel and put in the soil with the other side drowned in a glass of water! It’ll soak up any moisture from around its edges so all of it can be absorbed by the roots -and this tip will work year-round too!
6. Start small
Gardening can be a lot of fun, but it is important to take the time and put in effort before you make any major decisions.
You should start small with an area size of around 100 sqft first so that your frustration level doesn’t skyrocket once things are more difficult than expected.
7. Prevent nail dirt
So, you know when your nails are so dirty from working in the dirt that they start to grow some pretty nasty stuff?
To fix this, just draw your fingernails across a soap bar to seal the undersides of your nails before you garden. This way there will be no room for dirt to come in. Later, clean off the soap with a nailbrush.
8. Keep slugs away
To keep slugs from damaging your plant, mix crushed egg shells with soil and place around its base.
9. Dry your herbs
Dry your herbs by placing them on the newspaper at the back seat of your car. You will have fresh, dry herb in just 2 days!
10. Harvest in the morning
Harvesting your vegetables is important to preserve their nutrients, but not all of them should be stored in the refrigerator. Tomatoes and onions will lose flavor if you put it into cold storage for too long.
11. Vodka for flowers
Do you know that vodka can keep the cut flowers fresh for a longer period of time? Simply, just add some in the vase and store your favorite flowers.
12. Plant markers
You can always use an old pot for something new. Use it as your plant market and write the name of that beautiful flower on-the side with a permanent marker so you’ll never forget what they’re called!
