Foot soaking is a great way to relax at the end of the day! The benefits of apple cider vinegar soak, in particular, will amaze you! Foot washing/soaking is an act of self-care which will benefit you especially if you are dealing with the effects of some health issues that vinegar can help with.
Soaking your tired feet in a cool bath of apple cider vinegar at the end of the day will clear, exfoliate, and heal your feet. Vinegar is a mild acid which helps remove dead skin cells from the skin and refresh the skin at the same time.
As explained by Teresa J. Kelechi, Certified Nursing Specialist, and Sally Stroud, Nurse Practitioner, Vinegar, or acetic acid, is produced by the fermentation of natural sugars to alcohol and then secondary fermentation to acetic acid. Apple cider vinegar is a weak acid and usually contains 4 percent to 8 percent acetic acid. For centuries, vinegar has been touted as a cleanser and sanitizer. Hippocrates expounded on its medicinal properties, and the Bible contains references to its soothing and healing qualities.’
Apple Cider Vinegar Detox Foot Soak
This foot soak provides a wide range of benefits, such as healing dry skin, soothing sore muscles, relieving pain caused by minor sunburn, removing corns and warts, treating toenail fungus, treating callus, treating athlete`s foot, preventing and treating foot odor, and fading liver/ dark spots.
‘Research shows that 2 percent to 3 percent acetic acid in vitro inhibits the growth of Pseudomonas aeruginosa, Staphylococcus aureus, Proteus mirabilis and Streptococcus pyogene,’ Teresa J. Kelechi, CNS, and Sally Stroud, NP adds.
Kelechi and Stroud go on to explain that ‘Vinegar solution is mentioned descriptively in medical and nursing literature as a treatment for toenail fungus, athlete’s foot, and for use as an exfoliant for dry, flaky skin. The most often recommended mixture is one part vinegar to two parts warm water. Instruct patients to soak their feet for 15 to 20 minutes daily, rinse well and pat dry. Long-term use is contraindicated due to the potential for skin irritation.’
There are a couple of different varieties of apple cider vinegar, but make sure you opt for the one which has the ‘mother’ floating around at the bottom of the bottle.
Fill a tub about 2/3 with warm water from the tap, warm enough that you can feel comfortable. Feel free to use cold water if it`s a hot day and you want to cool down. Use a cup of apple cider vinegar to the amount of water in a classic footbath tub.
Soak the feet for half an hour. Apple cider vinegar`s scent tends to fade away very quickly, so don’t worry about it. When done, rinse the feet with cool water and either pat dry or let them dry naturally.
