Usually when we think of plants we think of beauties that make our homes and gardens wonderful. Yet, there are some terrifying plants we are presenting you today.
Bleeding Tooth Fungus
You can find this fungus in North America, Europe, Iran, and Korea.
It is an inedible but not toxic plant, which is young and has moist fruit bodies that can be seen “bleeding” а red fluid that contains a pigment. This pigment has anticoagulant characteristics that are similar to heparin.
If you ever go to the Pacific Northwest, Alaska, or North Carolina you may see this bloody fungus. Don’t scream, now you know it is a plant.
You might feel it because of its smell of rotting flesh. It smells like this because it attracts pollinators like beetles and flies.
This plant grows up to 10 feet in height. It is known as the world’s largest flower, and it is made up of thousands of small flowers.
This is considered as a phenomenon and it can be seen in areas near the ocean that have high amounts of algae. They turn the water red and red tides are the inspiration behind the Biblical blood ocean.
These algal blooms happen all around the world. The algae can be different. However, this effect of the red tide can be horrible to all sea creatures and humans who eat seafood which is contaminated with that toxin.
Not all red tides are toxic but their decomposing process can deplete the water of the amount of oxygen and this forces animals to relocate, or die.
Gympie Gympie Tree
This is considered as the most painful tree that exists. The gympie gympie has hairs that deliver a very potent neurotoxin and severe stinging. This means that the tree can be fatal for people.
So if you ever encounter this tree, don’t touch it because a single touch can affect you, and you will feel the toxins that manifest as aching joints, swelling under armpits and a burning sensation. If you are stung by the tree, immediately remove the hairs, otherwise they will continue to release poison in your body.
Native to Northeast America, Doll’s eye is very poisonous, to be more specific, its berries have high amounts of toxins.
They resemble eyeballs that are ripen in summer time and stay there until frost. Just before Halloween.
At first sight these mushrooms look like Mario-style mushrooms, but actually mature and erupt their red tentacles in order to attract flies.
They smell awful and by attracting flies they transport their “gleba” to some other location for reproduction.
This one goes to the top 3 popular creepy plants. Its most known characteristic lies in its predatory behavior towards small flying insects. It looks like “mouth” but this is its actual trapping mechanism, and the two leaves have hair sense pray and toothlike cilia which keep the pray so that it won’t escape. This creepy plants serve as an inspiration for many horror monsters in movies and would be a human nightmare.
This plant native to Mexico, grows in different sizes and shapes. The most famous one is the “brain cactus”
As it matures, it reminds of human brain. Just imagine you see this plant in the middle of the desert on a dark night. Nothing creepier huh?
